Texas Best Proteins recalls products with Cajun-style dirty rice
Food maker Texas Best Proteins is conducting a product recall of more than 25,332 pounds of Cajun dirty rice due to possible allergens.
The recall was initiated after the company was notified by its supplier that the Worcestershire sauce, used in making the product, contained peanuts, a popular allergen. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA), the known allergen, which may cause adverse reactions, was not included on the product’s packaging label.
The items subject to the recall are limited to Farm to Market Foods Cajun Style Dirty Rice and Turkey Dinner Kits. These were packaged October 27, 2016, November 1, 2016, and November 11, 2016, bearing the establishment number “EST. 950.”
The USDA warns the public about the adverse reaction that may be caused by the allergens once ingested. Consumers with a known peanut allergy are urged to stop the consumption of the products and dispose of them immediately. To date, the agency has not received any reports of illness related to the incident.
